"Why can't I sleep?" Alice whispered out loud. It was late Sunday night, and everyone was tucked away sleeping, preparing for the morning classes that lay ahead. But not Alice, she sat wide awake in her bed, gazing around to from person to person, to look for any sign of movement, maybe someone else was awake to talk too. No such luck. Quietly, Alice slipped on some socks and grabbed her book to head to the common room. Maybe she could relax a little there, and then head off to bed soon.
Alice sat in the chair nearest the fire, her legs were pulled up to her chest, and her hair thrown loosely into a pony tail behind her. She was reading one of her favorite books, for the one hundredth time, and she knew exactly what word would appear next, but that didn't stop her from reading, it still held the same suspense as the first time she read it.
Though it was good that she had read the book before, because she was just gazing over the words, barely actually reading. This was the third night in a row she couldn't sleep. Why, might you ask? That was what she was asking herself. She didn't even know, it was as if something had just come over her, haunting her almost. She sat still, and stopped reading for a moment to look around. She would of sworn she heard something, but she didn't see anything, she turned back to her book.
It was extremely late at night, and she was fairly certain that she was the only one in the common room, though she was too caught up in her own thoughts to care. She flipped to the last page, and within a minute or so, she was done. She had finished it once again. She set her book to the side, and gazed into the fire. "What to do now?" she thought. It was like she was in a trance. She sure wasn't tired, no matter what the time. So she sat frozen, her legs tucked closet to keep warm, staring at the flames that bounced around the fire in front of her.
(It's not very long, but it's here...)

(It's perfectly fine, my post won't be that long lol.)
Lily couldn't sleep. She wasn't tired, she had had a boring day. Every one had decided to let her get on with it today. No one had nagged her to told she just had to do something, or see someone. She also hadn't had any close encounters with slytherscum. It had been a good day, but had left her with loads of energy and she didn't want to sleep it off, so she walked slowly down the stairs to sit in the common room and maybe catch up with some Charms homework or something. She sliped into her slippers and a dressing gown and walked down the stairs, her head thinking about her favorite chair down by the fire, only to find one of her best friends sitting there instead. She smiled and joined her by the fire.
"Can't Sleep?" She smiled and noticed Alice had been reading a book. She took it from her hands and looked at the front cover. She had read this book before. Many, many times. In fact if she remebered correctly it was Alice who had suggested it. She smiled and opened it to the first page. "I remember this one. Remind me, what happens." She smirked and handed the book back to Alice.
(See what I mean, I will get longer I promise... my muse has evapourated for a second.)

Alice practically jumped when she heard Lils behind her. So maybe someone else was in the room. She was glad Lily had come to join her, it'd be nice for the two of the to catch up, they rarely saw one another anymore. She smiled as Lily asked about the book, she didn't mind telling her at all, actually she loved to tell people about it, "Pride and Predjudece," she started out with the title, and next of course came the author, "by Jane Austen," then she started out with the first couple chapters, "The news that a wealthy young gentleman named Charles Bingley has rented the manor known as Netherfield Park causes a great stir in the neighboring village of Longbourn, especially in the Bennet household. The Bennets have five unmarried daughters, and Mrs. Bennet, a foolish and fussy gossip, is the sort who agrees with the novel’s opening words: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” She sees Bingley’s arrival as an opportunity for one of the girls to obtain a wealthy spouse, and she therefore insists that her husband call on the new arrival immediately. Mr. Bennet torments his family by pretending to have no interest in doing so, but he eventually meets with Mr. Bingley without their knowing. When he reveals to Mrs. Bennet and his daughters that he has made their new neighbor’s acquaintance, they are overjoyed and excited."
She paused for a moment, if she was going to tell the story like that, well she'd talk Lily's ear off and they'd be here all night! "Oh Lily," she smiled, "you know the story." she said with a laugh. There was no point in discussing that when there were obvisouly other matters to be approached, such as, what brought her out to the common room at two in the morning? And also that James Potter, they always had quite a disscussion on him! So she spoke, "Enough of that story talk! What brings you out here so late, Ms. Lily?"
( No yours is fine, now half of mine is just a summary!)

(OMG! My Fave book of all time lol!)
"Can't sleep, haven't really done anything today, so I'm not tired!" She smiled, it wasn't often she got to say that. She was always doing stuff, and James was determined to have head meetings every five seconds so he could annoy her some more. Fun right? Wrong. Although the more time she spent with him the more she felt... well, happy when she was around him.
She shook the feeling off, it was against all her principles. She smiled at Alice. She of course knew all about the Potthead issue. What she didn't know was these new feelings, maybe this inpromtue meeting would mean the two of them could talk, maybe even she could tell her about the mixed signals she seemed to be getting from him and how she was starting to like him back. Though she would not admit that easily. Not at all. Most likely they would have to beat it out of her. Especially since Emme used to date him and isn't that like against Girl code. So as far as Lily was concerned. James Potthead Sucked. The End.
"One of the best Stories ever." She smiled. "I wish my Mr Darcy would come along...!" She laughed.

Alice almost laughed, though she knew Lily meant this in a more serious way. It was the James talk again. "Oh when will those two ever realize how perfect they are for one another?" she thought, "Well actually James has already realized it, almost a bit to much." she smiled in spite of herself. "Ohh Lily, he's probably already here!" she exclaimed. Actually she knew he was already here, it was James, he had always been there. "Lil I hate to admit it, but you have to consider Potter! He adores you Lil, and you know it! He works as hard as he can just to have a single conversation with you. Ohh Lil, he practically worships you!" she smiled, now some might have taken that as exaggeration, but in this case it was fact. If Lily had asked him to get on his knees and praise her, he would. "Lil maybe you should just give him a chance..." she ended with.
The issue had been running on way to long. James was head over heels for Lily, and Lily acted like he was scum. And well, while Alice had to admit she had never been very fond of him herself, it was obvious he had shaped up for Lily, and there was no way he was going to settle for anything less. Even the teachers would have said so, James and Lily were meant to be, and the only piece of the puzzle missing was Lil.
(I know mine too!)

Lily scoofed. "Potthead only thinks he's in love with me, but you watch now, if I start dating him, he'll get bored and then move on to someone else." She smiled. It was true, she had watched it happen to so many other girls before her. Even Emme.
"You should sit in on one of those Head boy/girl meeting things he rigs up every five seconds, It's unbearable. I mean we never get anythign sorted out, because he's too busy trying to make me fall in love with him. Which means we need to have another meeting the next day." The truth was she was growing to look forward to those meetings. She would wait all day then sit there pretending to be bored while James would throw compliments all over her. She adored it. What Girl wouldn't. And yeah, maybe every time he walked in through the door Lil got a little weak at the knees, but she would never admit to it.
"Besides, since when have you been on his side? Remember what he did to Emme? He broke her heart. He's a jackass and we will all be better off next year when we never have to see him again!" Of course Lily didn't mean that. She didn't want next year to come. She didn't want to have to lose contact with him.

"Lily must know he's right for her somewhere deep down." she thought. "but then again, maybe they aren't right for each other, Lily still seems convinced that he's dirt, and nothing more." Alice sat forward, and began twisting her hair around her fingers, what was she supposed to say? She didn't want to force Lily into a relationship, but she had to admit, James and Lily just seemed like they were made for each other. "Maybe all of Jame's big talk is just convincing me." she thought, James did have the ability to do that.
"Lil," she started out, "oh where to begin? Well first off, he wants you to be in love with him, because he's head over heels for you! Has James ever chased a girl like he does you? Every other girl has just fallen for him, but he wants you Lil! He could have any girl he wanted, but he chose you! And secondly, Emme is completely over him. They went out like forever ago," or thats how long it seemed at least, "They've worked everything out, so don't use that excuse." she laughed. "And I swear it, I'm definitely not on his side!" she exclaimed, or was she? Had he persuaded her?

"That's precisly my point!" She laughed "No other girl has held on thsi long. I'm just a challenge to him, someone he can't get THAT's way he thinks he's in love with me. Not because he thinks I'm pretty or clever or funny, but because I haven't fallen at his feet the first time he came running! That's what makes him think he loves me!" She smiled. She knew she was right, how could she not be? James Potthead only thought about himself, no one else. He wanted to be with Lily simply because she had put up a fight. Tomorrow he may want to get together with Alice or Amy, or maybe even Emme again, and she sure as hell wasn't going to be another knotch in his bedpost.
She smiled at Amy. She was fed up with this Potthead talk. "What about you? What been happening in your life?" She smiled.

"Lil might be the most stubborn girl in the entire world!" she thought. But that conversation was over, and they were moving on. They'd discuss that more some other time, Alice was sure of that. She also had a gut feeling that James and Lil would some way, or some how end up together. You couldn't stop destiny.
"Whats going on with me?" she laughed, "You've got to be kidding Lil! Nothing ever happens in this boring little life of mine!" she also regretted it. "Why do I have to be so darn shy?" she asked herself. It caused her life to have absolutely no fun, because no one even knew who she was. But she couldn't help herself from being so quiet, it was just natural. She needed to ask her something, "Lily," she practically whispered,, but she didn't know what words to use, "Lily, do you think I'm too shy? I mean do you think anyone even knows who I am?" she asked, she'd been wanting to ask Lily this for a while, but she always felt so overshadowed by Lily's popularity. Thats usually how she felt at least, true or untrue, Lils and Emme seemed so much more, ohh what word was there to use, confident maybe, but that really wasn't the word she was looking for.

Lily sat and looked at her friend shocked. What ahd brought this on? Alice was one of the liviest girls she knew! Why would she suddenly feel so alone? She shook her head and approached her best friend, putting a hand gently on her knee. "Hon, what makes you say that?" She asked.
Lily had known Alice for almost seven years, and sure it was usually her and Emme that did the talking when they were with other people, but Alice was the gorgeous one. She had the beautiful blonde hair, she was the one boys would look at when they were wlaking along the corridors in school, or around hogsmeade. Lily knew that Alice was a little unaware of her beauty, but she thought that that was a good thing because, well, look at Bellatrix Black. She is fully aware of how beautiful she is and she is willing to share it with the world. Lily looked at Alice again. "Alice, you may be a little shy, but from where I'm standing that's a good thing." She smirked. "You always know what to say or how to react. You always think beofre you speak, which means you never piss anyone off. In my book, that's better than any flirting or being open you could do!"

Alice thought for a second, “What had brought this on?” She had always been ok with the fact that she was, well the quiet one. Shy little Alice. Why was she so convinced that this year she had to change? She used to like the fact that she was always keeping to herself, and things had always worked that way, why change? Lily’s kind words had really comforted her. “Thanks Lil,” she practically whispered, “you always know what to say.” Was that really what had been bothering her lately? It was such a silly little thing, not even worth wasting her time thinking about. Alice was shy, and that was that.
“But anyways…” she said, changing the subject away from her lack of self confidence. “Something has to be going on with you, besides that James.” She smirked. Though she wasn’t actually sure that her words were correct. James had filled up all his time chasing Lily, which had caused Lily to either spend all her time with James, or trying to get away from James. And with all the homework everyone had, she couldn’t help but guess that nothing was going on. But then again, they weren’t at their average school, they attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where drama was always brewing, and even if nothing had happened with Lily, there was sure to be some big gossip that Lil had to tell her, there always was, and Lil always knew it.

Lily smirked. Alice wanted Gossip. The problem was she really didn't have any. Not at the moment. Her life was so full of Head-Girly stuff that she hardly had time to breathe anymore. She sighed and rested her hand on her knee followed by her chin. Maybe she should talk to Alice about how stressed she was at the moment. How everythign had piled up and turned into a great big mess.
"Life is really stressful at the moment Al, I feel like I have no where to turn, because wherever I turn there is someone wanting me to do something or go somewhere. There's Slughorn always on at me about my potions N.E.W.T and how I could go on and do something great if I just tried a little bit harder. Then there's Snape, always on my back, trying to be better than me. Then Potthead trying to get into my pants. Then there's bellatrix, whose life ambition is to make me feel like I'm a lowly mudblood. Everyone expects me to do well, well, apart from Bella who wants me to Fail. I really don't know anymore Al. You and Emme are great, but I sometimes feel so far away from you both because I hardly see you anymore." Lily gave a small smile. She was tired and fed up, and suddenly all she wanted was to be free of Hogwarts.

She stared at Lil in disbelief; she had no idea all the pressure Lil was under. I mean everyone in their seventh year had some, but it seemed like Lil’s was becoming tremendous, and it was still the first month back to school. “Oh Lil, I’m so sorry,” she said, and she truly was, she never liked to see her any of her friends upset, and Lil was surely not an exception! “But you know Lil, you’ve always got Emme and me, we’ll always be here for you! ” she said, sure she was speaking for Emme, but she knew that Emme felt the same way as she did. Ever since their first year at Hogwarts, the three had been extremely close, closer than most families. “Why didn’t I notice this?” she asked herself, “Lil has been acting a little uptight lately, I thought she was just annoyed of Pothead! I should have been there for her! I feel absolutely terrible!” and she did, if there was one thing she couldn’t stand, it was letting down her friends.
“Lil, if there’s anything you want me to do, I can study with you, or if you’d like I can even try and get Pothead of your case, I mean not completely he’s crazy about you, but a little bit maybe. Anything Lil, I feel absolutely horrid, just tell me, and I’ll do it.” She said, “If I can,” ran through her head, though she wasn’t going to tell that to Lil. The problem was, if Lil wanted Alice to talk to someone, well that was going to be hard, it was her shyness again, always in the way! But she’d do it for Lily, and in her heart she knew that. Her eyes met Lily’s; a comforting look among them, she really wanted to be there for Lil, it was the beginning of the year, and if she was this stressed now, well who could even imagine how stress she’d be at mid-term?

"No, it's ok, I'm.... I'm...." Was Lily actually going to admit to a real live human being that she was starting to like Potter's attention. That it was starting to become something she woke up for every morning? She doubted Alice would understand, but she wanted to be truthful. In actual fact, she'd be alot happier if Alice and Emme stuck a plan to get rid of Snape. He was the main problem in her life at the moment. He was always there when she did something wrong. Always over her shoulder to laugh at her little mistakes. It had taken Lily a long time to get used to Pothead over her shoulder, but she doubted she was going to find the same solution with Snape. The little greese ball.
She looked at Alice, she would tell her, she needed to tell someone or she would explode. However, she really, really, didn't want it getting back to Emme, not yet. Not when she hadn't really decided whetever that was how she felt. She knew Emme would probably never want to be her friend again. Lily knew she probably still had feelings for Potter and that was one of the main reason Lily was fighting her own.
"Alice, If I tell you something, you have to promise to keep it a secret, especially from Emme..."

Her stomach churned inside of her. "Lily wants to keep something from Emme?" It sounded so, unlike them. The three of them had shared everything to eachother since their first year. And now she was expected to keep something from Emme? Then a wave of concern fell over her, "Is Lily alright?" Was sometihng going on that Alice didn't know. She was worried now, not to mention, where Lil and Emme in a fight? "Oh that'd just be terrible!" The only fights the three had was on dumb little things, seriously dumb things. She couldn't remember them ever getting in any sort of disagreement worth noteing. "Well there was that one time in our second year..." But that didn't matter now.
"Yeah," her voice croaked in a whisper. She could keep a secret, she was practically a God at that, she was the quiet one after all. But that's not what disturbed her. Lily has a secret she can't tell Emme. It amazed her in a way, and made her feel well, risque. There she was sitting in the common room, way past curfew, it was almost one in the morning after all, about to hear a secret from one best friend that she couldn't tell the other. But in the same way, she felt, well scared, worried, whichever you chose. This was obiviously something quite serious. "...I promise." She added, much less confident, though she tried to hide that. Her head was spinning, she really didn't know what to expect. "Maybe it won't be as serious as I'm preparing for..." but she had no idea about what Lil was about to reveal to her.
